A full day with Basso, one of Italian cycling's great names, based right here in Bassano del Grappa. Ride on Basso bikes through the hills, then visit the heritage museum and the factory floor for a behind the scenes look at the brand's history, finishing with lunch.

Hands on
An afternoon in a historic villa garden: pick herbs and vegetables, shape and decorate your own focaccia with a local chef, then enjoy it at an aperitivo in the grounds.

Enogastronomy
A Palladian villa on the edge of Bassano, still farmed and still run by the family who own it. The tasting happens in the cellar rather than at a counter in a gift shop, and nobody moves you along. It is the one we take guests to on their first evening.
Worth knowing. Usually late afternoon, so it works well after a ride and before dinner. Easy to add to any day of a longer trip.
Enogastronomy
The same wine from several different years, tasted side by side, in a small Valpolicella estate where the person pouring made all of them. It is the clearest lesson in what a vintage actually does that we know, and it takes an afternoon.
Worth knowing. Best added to the Valpolicella and Lake Garda holiday, where it is already on the route. Transfers can be arranged from Garda or Verona.
Hands on
Visit Bassano's Ceramics Museum, then head to a local artisan's workshop nearby to learn basic clay shaping and take home a piece as a souvenir.

Events rather than products. If your week lines up with one of these we will build it in. If it does not, there is usually something else happening.
October, every year
Treviso claims to have invented it, and every autumn amateurs from all over compete to make the best one. It is joyful and slightly chaotic. A day trip from Bassano, with the canals and the old centre either side of it.

Hundreds of actors in Renaissance costume playing out a chess match on a giant marble board in the main square, with horses, flag throwers and musicians. The next one is in 2028, and tickets go early.
